Senior Network Operations / Network Infrastructure

Summary

The Senior Technologist is an expert/lead technical role responsible for establishing/maintaining enterprise data network standards. Designs and implement network solutions based on business requirements. Plans, designs, and implements data network infrastructure components. Coordinates the development and maintenance of procedures, specifications, and standards. Works on one or more projects of high complexity as the technology subject matter expert and/or technical leader/consultant in multiple disciplines. When involved with a project team, acts in a consultative manner and typically does not provide administrative or management type of support. Works on the most complex tasks and projects, or supports issues that involve the highest degree of risk, impacts enterprise-wide performance and makes use of the individual's expert knowledge within one or more areas of specialty. The incumbent will be responsible for network operational efforts related to Network infrastrucuture, F5 Load Balancers and VPN access for employees, partners and contracted services for approx 18,000 accounts. The incumbent will provide support and analysis to project managers and applications developers for any network services to include Opnet, Solarwinds, Cisco, F5, AT&T, etc.   This will involve working with third party vendors and service providers for governance and oversight to ensure adherence to the service level agreements (SLAs).

 

Other duties include providing subject matter expert (SME) information and support for

Operational Readiness Reviews as well as working closely with Network Engineering and Network Security staff to develop solutions and trouble shoot problems.   

 

 

Essential Functions:

 

 

  • Researches and analyzes advanced technology trends within area of expertise.

 

  • Identifies emerging trends and initiates research projects for team members.

 

  • Coordinates the assessment of emerging technologies.

 

  • Oversees cost-benefit and risk analysis and presents options to Sr. Management teams.

 

  • Assists in the development and analysis of source selection strategies.

 

  • Works with service providers to ensure that their in-scope technical solutions are consistent with the enterprise business strategy and architecture.

 

  • Serves as a consultant, trusted advisor and, as necessary, escalation point (Tier 3) for issues.

 

  • Provides project managers with technical consultation and advice, enabling quick response to inquiries related to the program/project. 

 

  • Provides technical analyses to help define assess and monitor technical aspects of the program/project or services 

 

  • Designs innovative solutions using new technologies. 

 

  • Recommends short-term alternatives when appropriate 

 

  • Reviews proposed designs at key milestones and approves additional efforts. 

 

  • Lead efforts to troubleshoot existing information systems or networks to identify errors or deficiencies.

 

  • Leads the resolution of support issues escalated by senior operations, development personnel or service provider personnel.

 

  • Provides technical expertise across business functions. 

 

  • Identifies opportunities to improve business processes via new technologies. 

 

  • Evaluates, tests, recommends, and implements specific network solutions. 

 

  • Coordinates with other departments any network changes or activities that could affect them 

 

  • Schedules and coordinates installation and maintenance of software/hardware on the network and ensures compatibility of all communications and computer hardware/software. 

 

  • Complies with all standard internal controls and processes. 

 

  • Delivers results in support of achieving the organization’s Service Level Agreements.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • BS Degree in engineering or equivalent work experience

 

 

  • CCDP/CCNP/CCNA and Microsoft certifications

 

 

  • Requires 15+ years of IT experience in porduct engineering, development and/or support functions.  Experience with leading teams in multiple technological and business environments

 

 

  • Must have broad knowledge of multiple computer environments, platforms, and technologies and in-depth knowledge of the enterprise products.

 

 

  • Ability to troubleshoot information systems or networks to identify errors or deficiencies

 

 

  • Skill in effectively serving as a primary point of contact between customer's technical staff and the enterprises development / engineering organizations

 

 

  • Knowledge of Quality of Service and experience designing / implementing QoS in an enterprise envrionment

 

 

  • Extensive knowledge of TCP/IP protocol stacks and firewall security in an inter-networking environment

 

 

  • Extensive knowledge with VoIP

 

 

  • Expert knowledge of a variety of network management tools, test equipment, circuits, routers...

 

 

 

Other Factors:

 

  • Prefereed- ITIL or equivelent certification

 

 

  • Potential to travel 25%

 

 

  • Requires on call status

 

 

After hours or peridoic shift work may occasionally be required
